Assalamualaykum. When a person dies, does that mean his inheritance include everything that he has? So we have to sell everything and then calculate the inheritance? Even the smallest thing?
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Whatever a deceased leaves behind, whether it is little or big, is included in the inheritance. The inheritance should be divided amongst his heirs after fulfilling other rights, like debts, a will or the death-related expenses. Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever leaves wealth behind, then it belongs to his heirs.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Allah knows best.
