Food and medicine for the heart
Praise be to God who created and equalized, and who destined and guided, and prayers and peace be upon the one who sent him as a mercy to the worlds, Muhammad bin Abdullah and upon all his family and companions. As for what follows:
In the midst of life’s struggles and its rapid pace, a person may overlook the most important part of his being, and the most valuable thing in it: his heart. The heart is not only the embryo that pumps blood, but rather the angel that governs all the limbs.
The true happiness of a person and his eternal misery are linked to the health and well-being of this heart. Al-Hafiz Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, excelled in diagnosing the condition of this king. He explained to us what is his food that keeps him alive, what is his disease that makes him sick, and how is the path to his medicine and recovery. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, as in the two Sahih books, from the hadith of Al-Nu’man bin Bashir, may God be pleased with him: ((…Indeed, there is a lump in the body: if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is spoiled, the whole body is spoiled, namely the heart)). [أخرجه البخاري برقم (52)، ومسلم، برقم (1599)].
Let us read these words that had the right to be written in gold, and let us listen with our hearts to his luminous golden words, openly finding in them the evidence to the life and happiness of our hearts.
May God Almighty have mercy on him, he said: “God Almighty created the son of Adam and his organs, and He gave each organ perfection, so if it loses it, he feels pain, and He made its property, which is the heart, perfection, so if it loses its presence, he experiences illnesses and pains of worries, anxieties, and sorrows.
If the eye loses the power of sight it was created for, and the ear loses the power of hearing it was created for, and the tongue loses the power of speech it was created for, then it loses its perfection.
The heart: was created to know its Creator, to love Him, to unite Him, to be pleased with Him, to rejoice in His love, to be satisfied with Him, to trust in Him, to love in Him, to hate in Him, to be loyal to Him, to be hostile to Him, to constantly remember Him, and to be more beloved to Him than everything else, more hopeful to Him than everything else, and more honorable in His heart than everything else. It has no bliss, pleasure, pleasure, or even life except with that, and this is to Him the status of food and health. And life, so if he loses his food, health, and life; Worries, anxieties, and sorrows are rushing towards him from every direction, and a burden remains on him.
Among His greatest diseases are: polytheism, sins, heedlessness, underestimating His love and pleasure, abandoning entrustment to Him, lack of reliance on Him, relying on anything other than Him, dissatisfaction with His power, and doubting His promises and threats.
If you contemplate heart disease, you will find that these matters and others like them are their causes and have no cause other than them. Its cure, for which there is no other cure, is what these prophetic treatments contain of the things that are the opposite of these medicines. Disease is removed by the opposite, and health is preserved by the same, so his health is preserved by these prophetic matters, and his illnesses by their opposites.
Monotheism: opens for the servant the door of goodness, pleasure, pleasure, joy, and cheerfulness, and repentance is an elimination of the impurities and corrupt substances that are the cause of his illnesses, and protects him from confusion. It closes the door of evils for him, so the door of happiness and goodness is opened for him through monotheism, and the door of evils is closed by repentance and seeking forgiveness.” [زاد المعاد في هدي خير العباد (4/ 185، 186)].
He also said, may God have mercy on him: “Sins are to the heart like poisons. If they do not destroy it, they weaken it, and inevitably, if its strength is weakened, it will not be able to resist diseases. Cardiologist Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak said:

Passion is its greatest medicine, and disobeying it is its greatest medicine. The soul was originally created ignorant and oppressive. Because of its ignorance, it thinks it will be cured in following its desires, but it is in it its damage and damage. And because of its injustice, it does not accept it from the advised doctor. Rather, it puts the disease in place of the medicine, so it adopts it and puts the medicine in the place of the disease, avoiding it. Thus, from among its preference for the disease and its avoidance of the medicine, types of illnesses and illnesses are generated that make doctors tired and difficult to deal with. Healing.
The great misfortune is that she blames this on fate, so she exonerates herself, and always blames her Lord in the tongue, and the blame becomes strong until the tongue expresses it.
If the sick person reaches this state, he has no hope of being cured except for the mercy of his Lord to cure him, give him a new life, and provide him with a good path.” [زاد المعاد في هدي خير العباد (4/ 186، 187)].
Thus, it becomes clear to us, my beloved brother, that the issue of the heart is the first issue; Because the goodness of this heart is a reason for the goodness of all the limbs, and if it is corrupted, all of them are corrupted, and the journey of searching for happiness is a dive into the depths of the self. To purify this heart between your sides and purify it.
Let our first and greatest concern be to meet God Almighty with a healthy heart, a heart filled with monotheism, washed by sincere repentance, and adorned with contentment and certainty.
Let us pledge our hearts, dear ones, today, for the heart is the subject of the Lord Almighty’s gaze, so let us be careful to keep it clean and safe. God Almighty said: A day when neither wealth nor sons will benefit * except him who comes to God with a sound heart ﴾ [الشعراء: 88، 89]His safety comes from escaping these diseases and struggling against them.
O God, O Converter of hearts, make our hearts firm on Your religion, and O Converter of hearts, direct our hearts to your obedience.
Oh God, we ask you for sound hearts, memory tongues, and souls reassured by you. Oh God, fill our hearts with your love, the love of those who love you, and the love of every action that brings us closer to your love.
Oh God, purify our hearts from polytheism, hypocrisy, malice and envy, and make them full of faith, certainty and monotheism.
Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Indeed, You are the Giver.
May God’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and all his companions.
