These are directions for those who asked me how to become a scholar of Sharia sciences? I said to him: You have asked about a great matter, which will be accomplished, God willing, in the following matters:
Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of God, his family, and all of his companions. As for what follows:
These are directions for those who asked me how to become a scholar of Sharia sciences?
I said to him: You have asked about a great matter, which will be accomplished, God willing, in the following matters:
First: Sincerity to God Almighty in seeking knowledge:
For the following hadith: On the authority of the Commander of the Faithful, Abu Hafs Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God Almighty be pleased with him, he said: I heard the Messenger of God, may God Almighty’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family and peace, say: “Actions are based on intentions, and for every person what he intended, so whoever’s migration was for the sake of God and His Messenger, then his migration is for God and His Messenger, and whoever’s migration was for a worldly gain or a woman to marry, then his migration is for what he migrated to.»; It was narrated by the imams of hadith scholars: Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Al-Mughirah bin Bardzbah Al-Bukhari and Abu Al-Hussein Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj bin Muslim Al-Qushayri Al-Naysaburi in their Sahihs, which are the most authentic compiled books.
Second: Fear of God:
Because God Almighty says: {And fear God, and God will teach you, and God is All-Knowing.} [البقرة: 282].
And the Almighty said: {And whoever fears God, He will make for him a way out * and will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies on God, He is sufficient for him. Indeed, God is All-Continuing. His command: God has set a destiny for everything} [الطلاق: 2، 3].
Third: Sincere supplication:
Because God Almighty says: {And your Lord said, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who are too disdainful to worship Me will enter Hell humiliated.}﴾ [غافر: 60].
Fourth: Accompanying a divine scholar who is proficient in knowledge.
Fifth: Continuous reading and research, asking what is troubling you.
Sixth: Understanding legal terminology such as: (disbelief – immorality – heresy – obligatory – recommended – condition – pillar) so as not to fall into distortion and misrepresentation.
Seventh: Be patient in your request, be patient, do not rush the fruit, and do not rush to get it.
Eighth: Joining a college to teach Sharia sciences according to the understanding of the Salaf; Because studying it gives some keys to knowledge and facilitates understanding the terminology.
Ninth: Eagerness to work with knowledge; The true fruit of knowledge is putting it into practice. Because God Almighty says: {Only those of His servants who fear Allah are scholars. Indeed, Allah is Mighty, Forgiving.} [فاطر: 28].
Tenth: Taking care to avoid sins; It forgets knowledge and weakens its blessing.
Eleventh: Read about the virtue of seeking knowledge and acting upon it.
twelfth: Studying the biographies of scholars, their patience, and their perseverance in seeking it, all of this is what sharpens one’s resolve and strengthens resolve and patience.
Thirteenth: Be careful and gradual in your request:
So you start with the books that are appropriate for your academic level, then you graduate. You consult your sheikh, from whom you studied, as he knows best what suits you.
Fourteenth: Paying attention to memorizing the Qur’an, knowing its meanings, reciting it often with contemplation, and working hard to work according to it.
Fifteenth: Memorizing the largest possible number of Prophetic hadiths, understanding their meanings and working diligently in working with them.
sixteenth: Memorize whatever necessary texts of knowledge that scholars have taken care to memorize, and consult your sheikh about that. May God protect you and grant you success in attaining useful knowledge and righteous deeds!
May God bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and all his companions.
