Interpretation of SurahAl ImranVerses (3-4)
﴿He sent down to you the Book with truth, confirming what was before it, and sent down the Torah and the Gospel.*before guidance for the people and sent down the Criterion. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the signs of God will have a severe punishment, and God is Mighty, full of vengeance.(Al Imran: 3, 4).
﴿The Book has been revealed to youThat is: the Qur’an.In truth“With truthfulness in His reports, and justice in His rulings, as God Almighty said:”And the word of your Lord was fulfilled in truth and justice.(Al-An’am: 115).
﴿Verifying what was before him﴾In agreement with the Scriptures that preceded it[1].
﴿And He sent down the Torah(On Moses, peace be upon him)And the Gospel(On Jesus, peace be upon him)BeforeThat is: He sent down the Torah and the Gospel before the revelation of the Qur’an.[2].
﴿Guidance for people(A state of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, and it has not been seconded because it is a source.)[3].
The meaning: He sent down these great books as a guidance for the people and an explanation for them, as God Almighty said:And We sent down to you the Book as an explanation of everything, and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.(Al-Nahl: 89).
﴿And He sent down the CriterionThe difference between truth and falsehood, and what is meant by it according to most commentators: the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, meaning: these books differentiate between truth and falsehood.[4]Some of them said: What is meant by the Criterion here is the Qur’an, and he repeated it to exalt it.[5].
﴿Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of God will have a severe punishment, and God is Mighty.“Al-Aziz is one of the names of God Almighty, and its meaning is: The Victorious, the One who cannot be conquered, and He cannot be defeated.”VengefulOne of the attributes of God Almighty, and its meaning is: He who exaggerates punishment for those who do wrong, who extends His affliction to the disobedient.[6].
