Ramadan is a training course for rebuilding
Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds. Praise be to God, who has brought us to Ramadan, and made it a season of obedience, a field for purifying souls, and a sanctuary for educating hearts. I praise Him, Glory be to Him, and thank Him, and I bear witness that there is no god but God alone, with no partner. He has made fasting a secret between Him and His servant, and I bear witness that our master Muhammad is the servant of God and His Messenger, His chosen one and His friend, who said: ((Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven)); agreed.
O God, bless and bless him, his family and companions, and those who follow his approach and follow his Sunnah until the Day of Judgment, as for what follows:
O servants of God, I advise you and myself to fear God. O you who have believed, fear God as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims. ﴾ [آل عمران: 102].
O believers, Ramadan is not only a month of abstinence from food and drink, but rather it is an annual training session through which God reshapes mankind, reforms hearts, refines behavior, and adjusts the path. A divine course, its purpose is clear, its approach is practical, and its results should extend beyond Eid.
The purpose of fasting was explained by God Almighty in His Book, saying: O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you, that you may become righteous. ﴾ [البقرة: 183].
Piety, servants of God, is not a slogan to be raised; Rather, it is a behavior that is lived. When a fasting person abstains from what is permissible, he learns that abstaining from what is forbidden is better, and when he becomes hungry while the eye can see and food is present, the meaning of observing God, not observing creation, takes root in his heart.
Ramadan is a training in commitment to words. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: ((Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, God has no need for him to give up his food and drink)).
How many words spoil a verse? How many tongues have cut off a uterus? Ramadan comes to teach us that the word is trust, that silence is worship, and that if the tongue is not controlled, it spoils the fast.
The poet said:
|
And guard your tongue, O man ![]() It won’t bite you, it’s a snake ![]() ![]() ![]()
|
It is a training in commitment to actions. Prayer at its proper time, prayer during its night, and a Qur’an that is recited during the hours of the night and at the ends of the day. Indeed, the Fajr Qur’an was witnessed ﴾ [الإسراء: 78].
He who leaves his comfortable bed before dawn, and challenges laziness, learns that success is not achieved by rest, and that the path to God requires struggle. The Almighty said: And those who strive for Us, We will surely guide them to Our ways. ﴾ [العنكبوت: 69].
It is also a training in morals and behavior. In crowds, at work, and at home, patience is tested.
He, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: ((If someone insults him or fights him, let him say: I am fasting)).
O believers, Ramadan teaches us how to control ourselves when angry, how to rise above abuse, and how to be non-emotional servants.
He, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: ((The severe one is not the epitome; The strong one is the one who controls himself when angry)).
It is a training in commitment in business; Charity multiplies, mercy spreads, a hand extends, and a heart feels hungry and needy.
God Almighty said: And they feed food out of love for it to the poor, the orphan, and the captive. ﴾ [الإنسان: 8].
And he, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: ((The most beloved deeds to God are those that are perpetual, even if they are few)).
Ramadan does not educate us on the seasonality of goodness, but rather on its continuity.
Dear friends, Ramadan is an education camp, a school of morals, and a test of honesty. The winner is not the one who is hungry and thirsty, but rather the one whose behavior changes, whose tongue is straight, and whose heart is right. The loser is the one who leaves Ramadan as he entered it, without a trace or fruit.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may God have mercy on him, said: Ramadan was made a track for his creation, in which they stay ahead of themselves by obeying Him.
So look – may God have mercy on you -: Which of us is the previous one? Which of us is negligent?
So ask yourself at the end of this divine session: What has changed in my saying? What changed in my act? What changed in my morals? If the effect remains after Ramadan, then the training has succeeded, but if the situation returns to what it was, then the defect is in understanding, not in fasting.
We ask God to make us among those accepted, and to bring us out of Ramadan with pure hearts, sincere tongues, and sincere deeds.
Oh God, accept our fasting and prayers, correct our secrets and our public ones, and make Ramadan a witness for us and not against us.
I say this, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him, for He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
The second sermon
Praise be to God, many good and blessed praises to Him as our Lord loves and is satisfied. I bear witness that there is no god but God alone with no partner, and I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, his family and companions, and whoever is guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment. As for what follows:
O servants of God, fear God Almighty as He deserves piety. And fear a day in which you will be returned to God. Then every soul will be paid in full what it has earned, and they will not be wronged. ﴾ [البقرة: 281].
O believers, one of the greatest losses is that Ramadan passes by for a person, and then he does not see a trace or change in himself, neither his prayer has improved, nor his morals have been refined, nor his tongue has been upright. Jabir bin Abdullah, may God be pleased with him, said: If you fast, let your hearing, sight, and tongue fast from lying and forbidden things, and avoid harming your neighbor, and let there be dignity and tranquility upon you.
Ramadan teaches us that worship is not abstract movements, but continuous behavior, and that fasting is not a temporary interruption, but rather long-term training. He, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: ((Perhaps a fasting person has nothing from his fasting except hunger, and a standing person may have nothing from his fasting except staying up late.)).
This is when the spirit of fasting disappears, and its form remains without its effect.
O beloved ones, one of the signs of the acceptance of fasting is a good condition after Ramadan. Whoever has Ramadan as a reason for his righteousness, has won the Lord of the Kaaba. Whoever knows God in Ramadan, will know Him in all other months.
Some predecessors said: How miserable are the people who do not know God except in Ramadan.
This divine cycle teaches us that time is capital, and that if the soul is not occupied with obedience, it will be occupied with disobedience, and that whoever is able to abandon his desire for God will not be unable to abandon his disobedience.
﴿ As for him who fears standing before his Lord and forbids the soul from inclinations, * For Paradise is the refuge ﴾ [النازعات: 40، 41].
So, may God have mercy on you, make Ramadan a starting point, not a farewell station, and make it the beginning of a new covenant with God, with yourselves, and with people.
Continue to pray, guard your tongues, improve your morals, and be the keys to good and the locks to evil.
Then know – servants of God – that God has commanded you with a great matter, which He began with Himself, and in which He supported His angels, so the Almighty said:
﴿ Indeed, God and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who have believed, bless him and grant him peace. ﴾ [الأحزاب: 56].
O God, bless and bless your servant and Messenger Muhammad, and may God be pleased with his rightly-guided caliphs, all the companions and followers, and those who follow them in good deeds until the Day of Judgment.
Oh God, make us free from the Fire. Oh God, accept our fasting and prayers, lower our gazes, guard our tongues, and purify our hearts from hypocrisy, our deeds from hypocrisy, and our tongues from lies.
Oh God, improve our conditions, and let us reach Ramadan for many years and long times in health, well-being, and obedience.
Oh God, grant victory to Islam, honor the Muslims, correct their rulers, have mercy on our dead, heal our sick, and provide relief to the concerned Muslims.
﴿ Indeed, God commands justice, charity, and giving to relatives, and forbids indecency, abomination, and transgression. He exhorts you, so that you may remember. ﴾ [النحل: 90].
So remember God, He will remember you, and thank Him for His blessings and He will increase you, and the remembrance of God is greater, and God knows what you do.
