How vast is the difference between the reality of the Islamic nation today, and the reality in which Abu Bakr – may God be pleased with him – advised Khalid bin Al-Walid: “Be careful of death, and life will be given to you.”
Humiliation: It is the humiliation that befalls an individual or a group, and it is the opposite of pride. To clarify the matter, we must review the causes and nature of humiliation and brokenness. Humiliation is not merely the absence of pride, but rather it is a psychological state affected by multiple factors surrounding a person.
Human nature:
It is in the nature of the human soul to love life and cling to it. Man seeks to achieve his desires and desires, and also seeks lofty goals. At this crossroads, people differentiate; Some of them prefer to endure hardships, even if it means losing their freedom or their life, for the sake of a cause they believe in, while others prefer safety, even if that means compromising their dignity.
In Al-Mutanabbi’s opinion, self-love is what motivates a brave person to be brave, and self-love is also what motivates a coward to be cowardly:
I see that we all want life for ourselves… keen on it and taking pride in it from a young age.
The cowardly’s self-love brought him piety… and the brave’s self-love gave him war
How great is the difference between the two souls!! And how great is the distance between the two goals!! How great is the difference between what this person loves and what that person loves!!
The two livelihoods are different, but the action is the same… until you see this kindness as a sin
Yes! Life is beloved to the brave, but what life does the soul of the brave love? Is it like every life that souls love? No, but it is the life of stamina, longevity, adventure, struggle, experiencing horrors, resisting engagements, and patience in the face of great matters. This is the life of the brave man who is loved and redeemed. If the world acquiesces to him in whatever he desires of it, his position will be good, and his soul will be happy in it. Otherwise, there is no good in a life whose elements and ingredients are destroyed, and only its ghost remains! This is a life that is death itself, or death is better than it.
Life is beloved to the soul of a coward, but what life does the soul of a coward love? Every life is without limit or restriction, or as the Holy Qur’an described the life of the Jews: {You will find them the most eager for life.}With that indefiniteness that she does not know of, nor any addition, if a boat of glory is prepared for her on a smooth plain, she ascends to it freely and freely, and takes it as a luxury and amusement. However, if an assailant attacks him or an obstacle prevents him from ascending, then there is no glory, and there is no one to grieve for him!
Akkad says: “Life is like death, it has forms. Among the forms of life are those that are hated and rejected, and among the forms of death are those that are loved and sought. Accordingly, there is no contradiction between a person’s love of his life and his love of power at times, because he may want a strong life when he confines himself to mentioning life. Rather, seeking life for him may be synonymous with seeking death for someone other than him.”
Is humiliation inherited or acquired?
We have to wonder: Is humiliation and brokenness inherited or acquired?
We certainly tend to believe that humiliation – like other morals – is acquired through education and the surrounding environment, and this morality continues to be taught by a previous generation to a later generation. It becomes as if it is an inherited nature that cannot be escaped from, and this is a relapse of the nature. Since God created human beings free, honored them with intellects, and commanded them to roam the earth and migrate therein to places of exaltation and exaltation: {Indeed, those who were taken by the angels, who were wronging themselves, said, “Why were you?” They said, “We were weak in the land.” They said, “Is this not the land of God?” Wide Then they emigrate therein – for those their abode is Hell – and it is an evil destination.}[النساء:97].
Then the Qur’an commands man to move to a place of dignity and glory, and not to be satisfied with an abode of humiliation: {And whoever migrates in the path of God will find on earth abundant hardships and abundance.}[النساء:100].
Social humiliation:
The most dangerous type of humiliation is social humiliation, which is a condition that afflicts entire groups, becoming a visible phenomenon. This humiliation results from the accumulation of individual cases that adopt a servile approach. When a nation loses its ideals, lofty idea, and driving belief, it feels the bad state in which it has fallen, which motivates it to rebel against this state.
God’s laws among nations:
God has laws that do not fail, and they apply to individuals as they apply to societies. Among these laws, God may punish people and test them because of their sins, and inflict humiliation and poverty on them. All of this is in order for them to turn away from their transgression and come to their senses, after they have been anchored to the earth and preferred the near and immediate over the good that is to come.
Humiliation factors:
What makes a person or a people servile, submissive and broken?
There are several reasons that lead to this, including:
Submissiveness Which grows in the shadow of the dominance of desires and love of the world. If desires become the control of a nation, it will have entered the stage of collapse. This nation may live for a period of time under this absurdity, and be deceived by the prosperity of its economy, but in the end it will be exposed to collapse.
The nation’s neglect of the essentials of its existence: The external causes are linked to the internal causes. Where the nation neglects the components of its existence, its leadership is seized by individuals who only possess the qualifications enjoyed by the usurper, and when the state of humiliation becomes an organized school for this reprehensible character, collective efforts increase to implant the concept of humiliation in souls. Laws are enacted, customs are encouraged, and the prevailing culture is promoted, which entrenches meanings of humiliation and submission. While it strikes at all values that glorify pride and dignity, and distorts every character that indicates the cohesion of personality. How beautiful is the prophet’s saying:
If death is not necessary… then it is impossible to die as a coward
The humiliation and defeat of nations is a prelude to the emergence of corruption of all kinds, and the injustice, poverty, and lack of security that befall them are nothing but a test from God and a punishment for negligence. God Almighty says: {Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what people’s hands have earned, so that they may taste part of what they have done so that they may return.} [الروم:41]
How vast is the difference between the reality of the Islamic nation today and the reality in which Abu Bakr – may God be pleased with him – advised Khalid bin Al-Walid: “Be careful of death and life will be granted to you.” The life of Khaled and his soldiers was a practical translation of this commandment, which made him say to Heraclius before the Battle of Yarmouk: “I have brought to you a people who love death as you love life.”
The Muslims witnessed dark periods, such as the invasion of the Tatars, when the humiliation of the people reached such an extent that the unarmed Mongolian soldier ordered the man to place his cheek and neck on the ground, and then ordered him to wait without moving. The Mongols’ advance did not stop except with the chant: “And Islam,” which was echoed in the gates of Ain Jalut.
Contemporary Mongols and Tatars, and those who understand them, will not stop except with such a chant: “And convert to Islam.” {And God has power over his affairs, but most people do not know}[يوسف:21].
