The virtue of patience
Praise be to God, the rewarder of the obedient, and the rewarder of gifts to the patient. To Him belongs creation and command, and in His hand is benefit and harm.And those who disbelieve say, “The Hour will not come to us.” Say, “Yes, by my Lord, it will certainly come to you.” He is the Knower of the Unseen, from Him not the weight of an atom escapes in the heavens or in earth, nor is it smaller than that nor is it greater except in a clear Book.(Sheba: 3).
I bear witness that there is no god but God alone, with no partner. He does what He wants and rules what He wants. I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the best of messengers and the master of the patient. O God, bless and grant peace to Your servant and Messenger Muhammad and to his family and companions.As for what follows:
O Muslims,Fear God Almighty as He is feared, and worship Him as He is truly worshiped, and arm yourself with patience in all calamities, and seek reward in all calamities, and know that the world is an abode of denial and desolation, marked by turmoil, and with it man was created with a liver, neither kind to the pious nor wretched, nor sweet to the ignorant nor the knowledgeable, and neither young nor old, nor human nor animal, are safe from its deceptions.
It is a house of trial and testing.The house of denial and sorrow, the house of the accusative and the accusative, how much you differentiate between aleef and alefe! A lover and his lover, a father and his son, a friend and his friend, and God Almighty has spoken the truth:We created man in a state([Al-Balad: 4], but it is a farm for the Hereafter, in which believers cultivate good deeds, and draw closer to their Lord through various types of obedience and closeness. They hope from God what He has prepared in the Garden of Bliss for the obedient:)They will enter the Gardens of Eden, and they will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their clothing therein will be silk.*And they said, “Praise be to God who has removed our sorrow. Indeed, our Lord is Forgiving, Thankful.”*It is by His grace that we have made the abode of residence a dwelling; no calamity will touch us therein, nor will any turmoil touch us therein.﴾ [Fatir: 33-35].
This is a great blessing,Enduring bliss is only for the believer, the one who believes in meeting his Lord, the one who is patient in the face of judgment, the one who is patient in adversity and adversity, the believer who knows that he has a Lord who will heal the broken and give great reward to patience, who knows that what befalls him was not going to miss him, and what he did wrong was not going to befall him, who is characterized by the characteristics of the faithful servants of God whom God Almighty described by saying:Those who, when a calamity befalls them, say, “Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.”*These are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and those are the ones who are guided.(Al-Baqarah: 156, 157).
Those whom the Lord of Glory prays upon, and brings them into His mercy because of their patience with fate, and bestows upon them mercy, and places guidance in their hearts, and fills their hearts with tranquility and contentment; To compensate them for what befell them, to compensate them in this world with whatever types of compensation He wishes, to atone for them their bad deeds, and to increase their good deeds.
A calamity may be a strong reason for the believer to be close to his Lord (his guardian), and it may be a reason for him to attain a status with God that cannot be attained for him except by such a calamity. It may take him from the ranks of the heedless to the positions of the patient, and bring him into the group of God-fearing servants. In the hadith narrated by Al-Darimi and Ibn Majah on the authority of Saad, may God be pleased with him, he said:((The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was asked: Which people are more afflicted? He said: The prophets, then the best. A man will be tested according to his religion. If there is firmness in his religion, his test will be severe, and if there is softness in his religion, he will be tested according to the degree of his religion. The test will continue on the servant until he is left walking on the earth with no sin on him.)).
And the stories of God’s prophets,And what befell them of calamities and tribulations is one of the greatest lessons, and so is what befell other faithful servants of God, whom God mentioned in His Mighty Book, and whose honorable Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned in his Sunnah.
The story of Job – peace be upon him – is the greatest lesson for the believers, and the greatest comfort for the afflicted. He was afflicted with affliction in his wealth, his children, and his body, unless others were afflicted. He had animals, livestock, crops, children, and well-pleased homes, which no one else had. He was afflicted with all of that, and his wealth and children were gone. Then he was afflicted in his body, and no healthy organ remained of him, except his heart and his tongue. God Almighty remembers them, so that The babysitter left him, and Al-Anais moved away from him, and he was isolated in a part of the country, and no one remained who cared for him except his wife, who was taking care of him. It is said that she was in need and began to serve people for his sake. He – peace be upon him – was an example of patience, so he was the master of the patient. He used to say – peace be upon him -: I thank you, O Lord, for what you have done well to me. You gave me money and children, and not a branch of my heart remained without that entering it, so I took that. It is all from me, and I have emptied my heart, so nothing will stand between you and me. If my enemy Satan knew what I have done, he would envy me.
Then God Almighty heard his supplication and supplication, and removed from him what befell him, and restored his family, his wealth, and his children, because of his faith and patience, and increased the great good that he had not thought of, so he compensated him for the great good in this world, and prepared for him lasting bliss in the Hereafter:)But those who fear their Lord will have gardens under which rivers flow, wherein they will abide. A revelation from God, and what is with God is better. For the righteous(Al Imran: 198).
God Almighty said about his Prophet Job:And Job, when he called upon his Lord, “Indeed, adversity has befallen me, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.”*So We responded to him and removed the affliction that was in him, and We gave him his family and the like of them with them, as a mercy from Us and a reminder to the worshippers.﴾ [Al-Anbiya’: 83, 84], This is the outcome of faith and patience, and the outcome is for the righteous.
Moreover, the calamities that pass through the children of Adam are many, and every calamity is less than the calamity in religion, so it is a reward for its owner if he is patient and expects the reward. As for the calamity in religion, it is the one that cannot be redressed, may God protect us and you from it.
The calamity of death may be good for the one who suffers it, especially if he attains martyrdom through it. This is like killing in the name of God, as well as drowning, burning, and other similar things that are mentioned in the hadith as their number of martyrs. There have been hadiths that indicate that these are among the martyrs. As in the hadith of Jabir bin Atik, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said:((There are seven types of martyrdom, except for killing in the name of God: the stabbed person is a martyr, the drowned person is a martyr, the one who suffers from pleurisy is a martyr, the one who is stabbed is a martyr, the one who burns is a martyr, the one who dies under a demolition is a martyr, and the woman who dies in the plural – that is: because of her pregnancy – is a martyr.)); The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, Al-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.
God has prepared for the martyrs permanent blessings and great favor that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever thought of. In the hadith narrated by Muslim on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, may God be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said:((God forgives the martyr for every sin except debt))And in Sahih Al-Bukhari, on the authority of Samurah bin Jundub, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said:((Tonight I saw two men who came to me and took me up the tree and took me into a house that was better and better. I had never seen anything better than it. They said: As for this house, it is the house of the martyrs.)).
I seek refuge in God from the accursed Satan:We will certainly test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits. But give good tidings to those who are patient.*Those who, when a calamity befalls them, say, “Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.”*These are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and those are the ones who are guided.(Al-Baqarah: 155-157).
May God benefit me and you with the Great Qur’an, and with the guidance of the Master of Messengers, I say this, and I ask God’s forgiveness for me, for you, and for all other Muslims of every sin, so seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
The first of the second sermon:
Praise be to God, who is ever-lasting and without fading, who disposes of His servants regardless of circumstances. He strengthens His obedient servants and gives generously to the patient. Indeed, the patient are paid their reward without reckoning. I praise Him, Glory be to Him, and thank Him for His apparent and hidden blessings. I bear witness that there is no god but God alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O God, bless and grant peace to Your servant and Messenger, Muhammad. His family and companions;As for what follows:
O people,Fear God Almighty, and know that what you are promised will come, and that you are in a house that is a place of lessons and calamities, and you are about to travel to the house of the Hereafter, so provide for your hereafter, and rectify your shortcomings by repenting and seeking forgiveness before you die, and that the multitude of calamities, the multiplicity of calamities, and the variety of disasters, is the greatest to be considered, and the greatest to be discouraged, and it is a reminder to those who consider, And a warning to the heedless, for the happy one is the one who is admonished by other things, takes admonition, observes God in secret and in public, knows the conditions of the world and its vicissitudes with its people, and is not deceived by his wealth and children, nor by his health and youth. How suddenly the nunation came! The rational and sincere person must watch his Lord, prepare for what is before him, give up disobedience to God, stay away from injustice to God’s servants, and repent to his Lord in sincere repentance, before the door of repentance is closed, before:May a soul say, “Oh, how unfortunate I am for having neglected to be near God, even though I were among those who mock.” (56) Or it says, “If only God had guided me, I would have been among those who are pious.”*Or do you say when you see the torment, If only I had a chance then I would be among the doers of good?(Al-Zumar: 56, 58).
