Modesty is part of faith<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nBuilding the heart, controlling behavior, guarding the nature<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nPraise be to God alone, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions.As for what follows:<\/span><\/p>\nModesty is not a side trait, but rather it is the guardian of faith and the fence of nature. Modesty is not a door of shyness that is closed in the face of life, nor a weakness that the strong disavow. Rather, it is one of the pillars of faith, a condition for the validity of nature, and an inextricable link between the servant and his Lord.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This research is a sincere call to re-wear the garment of modesty in its comprehensive sense: modesty before God in secret and public, modesty towards the soul that rejects this world, and modesty in the family, society and the digital space. A research that addresses the generation in its language, addresses its reality, and provides proof that modesty is not a restriction, but rather a crown for those who are wise.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Modesty: its reality and its place in Islam:<\/span><\/p>\nFirst: Modesty in language and terminology:<\/span><\/p>\nModesty in language is derived from life; It is as if the living person among the people is the one whose heart is revived and sees the ugly and is broken by it, and the one whose heart is dead is not ashamed of anything. Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani, may God have mercy on him, defined this in his book Al-Mufradat fi Ghareeb Al-Qur’an, saying:<\/p>\n
Modesty is the self-restraint from the ugly, and it is one of the characteristics of man. To be deterred from committing everything he desires, so as not to be like an animal.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This definition contains a valuable gesture: modesty is a contraction of the ugly, not of life. A lively person is not prevented from giving and interacting, but rather he is prevented from slipping into the worldly things, and this responds to those who confuse modesty with inability.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As for the legal terminology: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may God have mercy on him, was good at defining it by saying:<\/p>\n
A character that encourages its possessor to avoid evil and prevents negligence in the rights of those who have rights. [Fath Al-Bari].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Consider this definition, as it reveals two faces of modesty, not just one: a negative face that prevents you from doing evil, and a positive face that prompts you to fulfill your rights. True modesty does not make you evade responsibility, but rather makes you assume it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It was said in all that described true modesty:((Does God not miss you where He commanded you, and does not find you where He forbade you))<\/span>And in this word there is a complete treasure. It describes modesty towards God, not just from people.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Second: The fundamental difference between modesty and shyness:<\/span><\/p>\nMany people confuse modesty with shame, even though there is a fundamental difference between them. Modesty is a positive character that encourages you to abandon what is ugly and perform your duty, and it is a praiseworthy virtue according to Islamic law. As for shyness, it is a psychological breakdown that prevents you from speaking the truth and demanding it, and it is a reprehensible weakness in its proper place.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The timid one does good and refrains from evil, and the shy one refrains from both. Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them both, knew the answer when he asked the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, about the blessed tree, but he was ashamed of the adults in the gathering and remained silent. When he told his father, Omar said to him:((If I had said it, it would have been dearer to me than the world and everything in it))<\/span>; [Al-Bukhari], Shyness wasted an opportunity, and true modesty does not waste opportunities.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Third: Modesty is a characteristic of Islam:<\/span><\/p>\nHe, peace and blessings be upon him, said:((Every religion has character, and Islam created modesty))<\/span>; [Narrated by Malik and Ibn Majah and authenticated by Al-Albani].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Consider this great prophetic declaration: May God’s prayers and peace be upon him, he did not say that modesty was created in Islam, but rather he said that it created Islam; Modesty is the essence, title, and moral identity of the Muslim nation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And in the two Sahihs:((Modesty is a branch of faith))<\/span>The meaning of it being a branch of faith is that faith does not exist in its true nature when modesty is absent. Modesty is not an accessory to religion, but rather is part of its core and core.<\/p>\nOn his authority, may God bless him and grant him peace:((Modesty and faith are linked together, so if one is elevated, the other is elevated))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Hakim and authenticated by Al-Albani].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
This hadith puts before us a strict religious law: modesty and faith are one currency. Whoever sees in himself a decline in modesty, let him review his faith first.<\/p>\n

Fourth: The virtues of modesty:<\/span><\/p>\nHe, peace and blessings be upon him, said:((Modesty only brings goodness))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
On his authority, may God bless him and grant him peace:((Modesty is not in anything but that it beautifies it, and obscenity is not in anything but that it distorts it))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
((One of the words that people realized from the words of the first prophecy was: If you are not ashamed, then do whatever you want.))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari], and there are two interpretations of this hadith: the first is that it is a threat and a warning to those who have lost modesty, and the second is that it is a conditional permission: do what you are not ashamed before God to do, and both of them confirm that modesty is the first watchdog and the trustworthy guard.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Ibn al-Qayyim said: Modesty is the root of all goodness, and its removal is the elimination of all goodness. Rather, it is specific to humanity. He who has no modesty has no humanity except flesh and blood and their apparent appearance. Were it not for this character, the guest would not have accepted, the promise would not have been fulfilled, the trust would not have been fulfilled, and no one’s need would be fulfilled. Modesty before God: the greatest ranks and the most honorable positions:<\/span><\/p>\nThe greatest type of modesty and the highest degree is modesty before God, Blessed and Most High. It is the root of principles, and the source from which all types of modesty branch. Whoever has modesty before God settled in his heart, God’s presence will be more prominent in his feelings than any human presence.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
May God bless him and grant him peace, he said:((Be ashamed before God as you should be. They said: O Messenger of God, we are ashamed, and praise be to God. He said: Not that, but being ashamed before God is the right of modesty: to guard the head and what it contains, and the stomach and what it contains, and to remember death and calamity))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and said it is Hasan Sahih].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
This hadith is a complete practical approach to modesty before God: protecting the head means the mind, eyes, ears, and tongue, and protecting the stomach means avoiding what is forbidden in food, drink, and private parts, and mentioning death kills vanity and awakens the conscience.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
First: Shame about responding to God’s blessings with sin:<\/span><\/p>\nGod Almighty said in the Holy Hadith:((I, the jinn, and mankind are in great news. I am created and others are worshiped. I am provided with and others are grateful. I endear myself to them with blessings and they turn away from me with sins. My goodness descends to them and their evil ascends to me.))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi], How is it appropriate for a servant to eat from God’s provision and then disobey Him?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
A man came to Ibrahim bin Adham, may God have mercy on him, saying: I am haunted by sin, and I cannot restrain it. So he said to him: If you want to disobey God, do not eat from His provision. He said: How can that be, since everything is His? He said: Is it appropriate for you to eat from his provision, sleep on his land, and disobey him while he sees you? The man cried and repented. This story presents modesty as an evocation of divine presence, not just a passing emotional feeling.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Second: Modesty in privacy:<\/span><\/p>\nHe, peace and blessings be upon him, said:((I advise you to be ashamed of God Almighty as you are ashamed of a righteous man from your people))<\/span>; [Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabir].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
This is a prophetic commandment that sets a practical standard: Measure the extent of your shyness before God by the extent of your shyness toward the most righteous people in your surroundings. If so-and-so righteous man were to see you now, what would you leave behind? That is what you should leave for God’s sake.<\/p>\n

Ibn al-Qayyim said: As for the modesty of servitude: it is a modesty mixed with love and fear, and seeing that his servitude to his idol is not good, and that his worth is higher and more honorable than it, so his servitude to him inevitably necessitates his being ashamed of him. [Madarij as-Salikeen].<\/p>\n

Third: Modesty comes from patience in the face of affliction:<\/span><\/p>\nOne of the highest forms of modesty towards God is that the servant should not become bored when he is afflicted, forgetting years of goodness and well-being. The Prophet of God, Job, peace be upon him, gave us an example in which he reached its peak; When he said to his wife when she asked him to ask God to lift the calamity:<\/p>\n
How long have we been healthy? She said: Sixty years. He said: By God, I am ashamed to ask God to lift the affliction, and I have not reached the level of affliction that I have achieved in well-being. [Interpretation of Al-Alusi].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sixty years of wellness, and years of affliction, so Job measures and is ashamed: Do we hear this and review our hasty complaints about the slightest distress? This is the deep-rooted modesty that does not disappear during distress, but rather manifests itself during it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Modesty of oneself and people:<\/span><\/p>\nFirst: modesty of oneself, the internal censor:<\/span><\/p>\nNoble souls are devoted to this world, even in secret, when no one sees them. The highest level of this rank is what Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, described:<\/p>\n
As for a person’s modesty towards himself: it is the modesty of honorable, honorable and exalted souls from their satisfaction with their own inferiority and their conviction of inferiority. He finds himself ashamed of himself to the point that it is as if he has two souls, one of which is ashamed of the other, and this is the most complete form of modesty; If a servant is ashamed of himself, then he is more worthy of being ashamed of others. [Madarij as-Salikeen].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is an amazing, profound depiction: a soul that is ashamed of itself, and this is what true faith education creates: a person does not need an external monitor because the monitor is in his chest.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
One of the greatest evidences of this modesty is the position of Joseph, peace be upon him, when the wife of the Almighty called him and the doors were closed, with no eye to see and no hand to prevent, and yet he said:God forbid, indeed, my Lord, He is the best resting place for me. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.<\/span>([Joseph: 23].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
(God forbid)<\/span>; This one word was an impenetrable fortress. Joseph did not say: I fear punishment, nor did he say: People will see me. He said: God forbid. Shame towards God was the first and last deterrent, and this is the difference between religious modesty and social modesty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Second: modesty towards people:<\/span><\/p>\nBeing shy towards people is not just a social embarrassment, but rather a reflection of one’s self-worth and the preservation of dignity. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, warned against the most severe forms of this lack of modesty:((All of my nation will be exempt except those who declare openly, and among the signs of openness is when a man does something at night and then in the morning while God has covered him, he says: O so-and-so, yesterday you did such-and-such, and his Lord covered him for the night, and in the morning God’s cover for him is revealed))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
One of the contemporary phenomena related to this hadith is: publishing details of one’s private life on social media in order to seek approval and sympathy. God has covered and revealed, and in revealing there is something that deprives you of the forgiveness that accompanies divine concealment.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Among the modesty towards people: modesty towards the parents, so the child does not walk in front of his father arrogantly, does not sit before him, or calls him by his name, and modesty towards scholars and people of merit, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, made honoring a gray-haired Muslim part of reverence for God Himself; [Narrated by Abu Dawud].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Women and modesty, the story of the two girls with Moses, peace be upon him, as an example:<\/span><\/p>\nIf there were no verses in the Holy Qur’an that depict modesty except this verse, it would be sufficient. It is a unique Qur’anic painting that depicts modesty in its most beautiful and delicate form:Then one of them came to him, walking timidly, and said, “My father is calling you to reward you for what you watered for us.”<\/span>﴾ [Al-Qasas: 25].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
First stop:<\/span> (She walks shyly)<\/span>The verse did not say: She walked quickly or slowly, but rather it said:(She walks shyly)<\/span>Shyness is an attribute necessary for walking itself, just as a person holds his breath, and his saying:(timidly)<\/span>It indicates that modesty was like the rug she walked on, or like the dignity that covered her walk.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
True modesty is not an emergency situation that appears occasionally, but rather it is an established nature that appears in small details such as walking, talking, and the way one sits.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Second stop:<\/span>Need does not overthrow modesty: The girl is in need. Her father, the old man, sent her to invite a foreign man. Need could have justified some leniency, but modesty did not waver. She came to perform the task and returned with brevity, clarity, and modesty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
This is a clear response to those who justify the decline of modesty by necessity. Necessity does not remove modesty. A Muslim woman can fulfill her needs and maintain her dignity at the same time, as this honorable girl taught us.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Third stop:<\/span>Modesty does not hinder correct speech:She said, “My father invites you to reward you for what you watered for us.”<\/span>(Al-Qasas: 25), so she conveyed the message clearly, concisely, and reverently. Modesty did not make her unable to speak, but rather made her speech more dignified and eloquent. A lively woman speaks when she needs to and is silent when she does not need to, and this is more eloquent and wiser.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Fourth stop:<\/span>Modesty is a two-way street: On the way to the father, Moses, peace be upon him, asked that she walk behind him, not in front of him, so that his gaze would not fall on her. So he also committed to modesty, and when a man who lowers his gaze, a woman who maintains her dignity, and a father who takes care of his honor meet in society, a safe, pure society is formed in which good things are arranged, and the fruit of this lively meeting was: a blessed marriage and a lawful livelihood.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
The most beautiful thing in a woman is her modesty, and the foundation of good morals is modesty. And consider the words of the truth:And do not display yourself as you did in the days of pre-Islamic times.<\/span>([Al-Ahzab: 33], and the commentators have gathered for us the meaning of display: displaying adornment, displaying charms, and arousing instincts. Its opposite is modesty, which is based on modesty, concealment, and protection. Islam imposed the hijab for profound reasons: to protect women from becoming a commodity to be displayed, and to protect society from arousing desires in it, and for what God revealed.)And let them put their veils over their pockets.<\/span>(An-Nour: 31) The women of the emigrants tore their cloaks and covered themselves with them. [Agreed upon], they did not wait for an explanation or argument, they listened and complied; This is the true faith response to the modesty of God Almighty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
On the other hand, praiseworthy modesty is that which encourages good and prevents evil. Therefore, it is not understood that modesty is a hindrance to doing good or seeking it and talking about it, as in the story of the two girls, and in the hadith, peace and blessings of God be upon him, he says:((How good the women are, the women of the Ansar. Their modesty did not prevent them from learning the religion.))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim], and this is prophetic praise that proves that modesty does not prevent a woman from learning, asking questions, and participating. Rather, a modest woman is one who excels in her giving because her modesty refines her speech and honors her stances.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Ten types of modesty: Ibn al-Qayyim’s view, may God have mercy on him:<\/span><\/p>\nIbn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, divided modesty in his book(Madarij as-Salikin)<\/span>into ten wonderful types, following the states of the heart in observing God, people, and the soul,It is the most accurate and most beautiful division in this section:<\/span><\/p>\n1. The modesty of the crime:<\/span><\/p>\nThe modesty of Adam, peace be upon him, when he fled in Paradise. God said: Fleeing from me, Adam? He said: No, Lord, but rather because of your shyness, which is the shyness of the sinner who feels the weight of his crime and returns to God with shame and repentance. This is the most honorable repentance because it is motivated by shame, not just fear.<\/p>\n

2. The shame of negligence:<\/span><\/p>\nThe modesty of the angels who glorify them day and night does not slander. When the Day of Resurrection comes, they say: We did not worship you as you should be worshiped. This is the modesty of every righteous person who sees his shortcomings in the face of God’s blessings upon him. The more a person increases in obedience, the more his shyness due to shortcomings increases, and this is a sign of sincere faith.<\/p>\n

3. Modesty of reverence:<\/span><\/p>\nIt is the modesty of knowledge; According to the servant’s knowledge of his Lord, his shyness towards Him will be determined. Whoever truly knows God, his heart will be filled with awe and modesty. This is an inherited modesty that is not acquired by affectation, but rather is the result of deepening knowledge of God.<\/p>\n

4. Modesty of generosity:<\/span><\/p>\nLike the shyness of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, towards the people who sat for a long time at Zainab’s banquet, so he stood up and was ashamed to say to them: Go away. This is a shyness that shows the generosity and tolerance of the soul, and it shows that modesty is not weakness, but rather chivalry and sublimity.<\/p>\n

5. Modesty of decency:<\/span><\/p>\nLike the shyness of Ali, may God be pleased with him, to ask the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, about pre-ejaculation due to the place of his daughter Fatima in it, so he sent Al-Miqdad to ask; Modesty takes care of the feelings of those we love and does not embarrass them.<\/p>\n

6. The modesty of belittling oneself:<\/span><\/p>\nWhen a servant asks his Lord for his needs, he is ashamed of his smallness in front of the greatness of the One in charge, and this generates humility and humility before God, and makes the supplication sincere and submissive.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
7. The modesty of love:<\/span><\/p>\nThe shyness of the lover toward his beloved, such that when it crosses his heart during his absence, modesty becomes aroused. This is the shyness of a servant who loves his Lord and is ashamed to make a mistake in front of the one he loves. Those who know God have linked sincerity of love with excessive modesty.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
8. The modesty of slavery:<\/span><\/p>\nIt is mixed with love, fear, and witnessing the imperfection of slavery. It is the most specific type of modesty and the highest in status in the relationship with God. Its owner sees himself as always falling short and does not purify it, even if he does good.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
9. Modesty of honor and pride:<\/span><\/p>\nThe modesty of the honorable soul, which is ashamed to perform actions that are below its worth. This is a modesty that always pushes its possessor to the highest level, and keeps him away from the places of pettiness and humiliation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
10. One’s shyness towards oneself:<\/span><\/p>\nThe highest type of modesty: a person is ashamed of himself when he is satisfied with his imperfection or is lenient in worldly matters in solitude. Ibn al-Qayyim said: If a servant is ashamed of himself, then it is more worthy of him to be ashamed of others.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Luminous models: Prophets, Companions, and Salaf:<\/span><\/p>\nFirst: Prophets, leaders of modesty:<\/span><\/p>\n•<\/span>Adam and Eve, peace be upon them:<\/p>\nWhen they ate from the tree, their evil deeds became apparent to them, and their only response was to quickly take some of the leaves of Paradise to cover their shame. God Almighty said:And they began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise.<\/span>(Al-A`raf: 22).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
At the first moment of awareness of shame, modesty was present. They did not say: No one sees us, but rather rushed to cover it. This indicates that modesty is an inherent nature inherent in man, and that its lack is not human nature, but rather a setback from nature.<\/p>\n

If he saw something that he hated, we recognized it in his face))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim].<\/p>\nIf he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, heard something about a man that he hated, he would not confront him by name, but would say:((What is the matter with people who say such and such?))<\/span>; To protect his feelings and avoid direct embarrassment, when he was offered to shorten the prayer on the Night of the Night Journey and review his Lord one last time, he said:((I am ashamed before my Lord))<\/span>; Modesty before God even in the most honorable positions.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Second: The honorable companions:<\/span><\/p>\n•<\/span>Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, modesty in privacy:<\/p>\nAl-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, delivered a speech and said: O community of Muslims, be ashamed of God. By God, when I go to defecate in space, I remain masked by my dress out of shame before my Lord. [Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in his Musannaf], modesty towards God does not cease even in the most private moments.<\/p>\n

When Othman asked permission, he sat down and straightened his clothes, so Aisha asked him, and he said:((Am I not ashamed of a man whom angels are ashamed of?))<\/span>; [Narrated by Muslim], Uthman had reached such a degree of modesty that even the angels themselves were ashamed of him.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
•<\/span>Aisha, may God be pleased with her, modesty even in front of the dead:<\/p>\nShe said, may God be pleased with her: “I used to enter the house in which the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and my father were buried, and put on my dress, as it was my husband and my father. When Omar was buried with them, I only entered with my clothes tied up, out of shame for Omar,” may God be pleased with him, a level of modesty that goes beyond the living to the dead.<\/p>\n

Third: The righteous predecessors:<\/span><\/p>\nAl-Jarrah Al-Hakami, may God have mercy on him, said: “I abandoned sins out of shame for forty years, then piety overtook me.” Modesty is a generous seed whose fruit is piety and piety. Al-Rabi’ ibn Khathim, may God have mercy on him, used to visit Ibn Masoud’s house for twenty years, and when the housemaid saw him, she said: Your blind friend has come, and he was not blind, but rather lowered his gaze out of shyness.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Amr bin Utbah, may God have mercy on him, was praying one night when he heard the sound of a lion, so those who were around him fled while he did not leave. He was told: Was the lion not afraid? He said: “I am ashamed before God to fear anything other than Him.” This is the true courage that modesty inherits from God.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Impediments to modesty: How does the greatest creation die?<\/span><\/p>\nIbn al-Qayyim said: One of the punishments for sins is the loss of modesty, which is the substance of the heart’s life and the origin of all goodness. Whenever sins occur in the heart, it kills its modesty, to the point that it may be completely removed from it, so it is not affected by people’s knowledge of its bad condition. And if the servant reaches this state, there is no hope left in his righteousness. [Relief for the anxious].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
First: Accumulated sins:<\/span><\/p>\nSins accumulate in the heart like rust on iron. A sin that weakens modesty, thus preparing for a greater sin, until what he was ashamed of becomes a normal thing, and among the things that most kill modesty: gazing at forbidden things, listening to obscene singing, and being alone with the net and screen without any scruple.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Yazid bin Al-Walid said: “O Umayyads, beware of singing, for it reduces modesty, increases lust, and destroys chivalry.” [Al-Bayhaqi and Ibn Abi Al-Dunya].<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Second: Opening up about sin:<\/span><\/p>\nWhen a person declares his disobedience openly, he does two things at the same time: he deprives himself of the forgiveness that accompanies the secret, and he trains himself on boldness so that the next disobedience becomes easier. Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani, may God have mercy on him, defined this in his book Al-Mufradat fi Ghareeb Al-Qur’an, saying:<\/p>\n Modesty is the self-restraint from the ugly, and it is one of the characteristics of man. To be deterred from committing everything he desires, so as not to be like an animal.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This definition contains a valuable gesture: modesty is a contraction of the ugly, not of life. Modesty is a positive character that encourages you to abandon what is ugly and perform your duty, and it is a praiseworthy virtue according to Islamic law. As for shyness, it is a psychological breakdown that prevents you from speaking the truth and demanding it, and it is a reprehensible weakness in its proper place.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The timid one does good and refrains from evil, and the shy one refrains from both. Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them both, knew the answer when he asked the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, about the blessed tree, but he was ashamed of the adults in the gathering and remained silent. He said: Not that, but being ashamed before God is the right of modesty: to guard the head and what it contains, and the stomach and what it contains, and to remember death and calamity))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and said it is Hasan Sahih].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This hadith is a complete practical approach to modesty before God: protecting the head means the mind, eyes, ears, and tongue, and protecting the stomach means avoiding what is forbidden in food, drink, and private parts, and mentioning death kills vanity and awakens the conscience.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n First: Shame about responding to God’s blessings with sin:<\/span><\/p>\n God Almighty said in the Holy Hadith:((I, the jinn, and mankind are in great news. I am created and others are worshiped. I am provided with and others are grateful. I endear myself to them with blessings and they turn away from me with sins. My goodness descends to them and their evil ascends to me.))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi], How is it appropriate for a servant to eat from God’s provision and then disobey Him?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A man came to Ibrahim bin Adham, may God have mercy on him, saying: I am haunted by sin, and I cannot restrain it. [Madarij as-Salikeen].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Third: Modesty comes from patience in the face of affliction:<\/span><\/p>\n One of the highest forms of modesty towards God is that the servant should not become bored when he is afflicted, forgetting years of goodness and well-being. The Prophet of God, Job, peace be upon him, gave us an example in which he reached its peak; When he said to his wife when she asked him to ask God to lift the calamity:<\/p>\n How long have we been healthy? She said: Sixty years. He said: By God, I am ashamed to ask God to lift the affliction, and I have not reached the level of affliction that I have achieved in well-being. [Interpretation of Al-Alusi].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sixty years of wellness, and years of affliction, so Job measures and is ashamed: Do we hear this and review our hasty complaints about the slightest distress? This is the deep-rooted modesty that does not disappear during distress, but rather manifests itself during it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Modesty of oneself and people:<\/span><\/p>\n First: modesty of oneself, the internal censor:<\/span><\/p>\n Noble souls are devoted to this world, even in secret, when no one sees them. The highest level of this rank is what Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, described:<\/p>\n As for a person’s modesty towards himself: it is the modesty of honorable, honorable and exalted souls from their satisfaction with their own inferiority and their conviction of inferiority. He finds himself ashamed of himself to the point that it is as if he has two souls, one of which is ashamed of the other, and this is the most complete form of modesty; If a servant is ashamed of himself, then he is more worthy of being ashamed of others. [Madarij as-Salikeen].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It is an amazing, profound depiction: a soul that is ashamed of itself, and this is what true faith education creates: a person does not need an external monitor because the monitor is in his chest.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One of the greatest evidences of this modesty is the position of Joseph, peace be upon him, when the wife of the Almighty called him and the doors were closed, with no eye to see and no hand to prevent, and yet he said:God forbid, indeed, my Lord, He is the best resting place for me. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.<\/span>([Joseph: 23].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n (God forbid)<\/span>; This one word was an impenetrable fortress. Joseph did not say: I fear punishment, nor did he say: People will see me. He said: God forbid. Shame towards God was the first and last deterrent, and this is the difference between religious modesty and social modesty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Second: modesty towards people:<\/span><\/p>\n Being shy towards people is not just a social embarrassment, but rather a reflection of one’s self-worth and the preservation of dignity. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, warned against the most severe forms of this lack of modesty:((All of my nation will be exempt except those who declare openly, and among the signs of openness is when a man does something at night and then in the morning while God has covered him, he says: O so-and-so, yesterday you did such-and-such, and his Lord covered him for the night, and in the morning God’s cover for him is revealed))<\/span>; [Narrated by Al-Bukhari].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One of the contemporary phenomena related to this hadith is: publishing details of one’s private life on social media in order to seek approval and sympathy. God has covered and revealed, and in revealing there is something that deprives you of the forgiveness that accompanies divine concealment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Among the modesty towards people: modesty towards the parents, so the child does not walk in front of his father arrogantly, does not sit before him, or calls him by his name, and modesty towards scholars and people of merit, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, made honoring a gray-haired Muslim part of reverence for God Himself; [Narrated by Abu Dawud].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Women and modesty, the story of the two girls with Moses, peace be upon him, as an example:<\/span><\/p>\n If there were no verses in the Holy Qur’an that depict modesty except this verse, it would be sufficient. It is a unique Qur’anic painting that depicts modesty in its most beautiful and delicate form:Then one of them came to him, walking timidly, and said, “My father is calling you to reward you for what you watered for us.”<\/span>﴾ [Al-Qasas: 25].<\/p>\n <\/p>\n First stop:<\/span> (She walks shyly)<\/span>The verse did not say: She walked quickly or slowly, but rather it said:(She walks shyly)<\/span>Shyness is an attribute necessary for walking itself, just as a person holds his breath, and his saying:(timidly)<\/span>It indicates that modesty was like the rug she walked on, or like the dignity that covered her walk.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n True modesty is not an emergency situation that appears occasionally, but rather it is an established nature that appears in small details such as walking, talking, and the way one sits.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Second stop:<\/span>Need does not overthrow modesty: The girl is in need. Her father, the old man, sent her to invite a foreign man. Need could have justified some leniency, but modesty did not waver. She came to perform the task and returned with brevity, clarity, and modesty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is a clear response to those who justify the decline of modesty by necessity. Necessity does not remove modesty. A Muslim woman can fulfill her needs and maintain her dignity at the same time, as this honorable girl taught us.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Third stop:<\/span>Modesty does not hinder correct speech:She said, “My father invites you to reward you for what you watered for us.”<\/span>(Al-Qasas: 25), so she conveyed the message clearly, concisely, and reverently. Modesty did not make her unable to speak, but rather made her speech more dignified and eloquent. A lively woman speaks when she needs to and is silent when she does not need to, and this is more eloquent and wiser.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fourth stop:<\/span>Modesty is a two-way street: On the way to the father, Moses, peace be upon him, asked that she walk behind him, not in front of him, so that his gaze would not fall on her. So he also committed to modesty, and when a man who lowers his gaze, a woman who maintains her dignity, and a father who takes care of his honor meet in society, a safe, pure society is formed in which good things are arranged, and the fruit of this lively meeting was: a blessed marriage and a lawful livelihood.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The most beautiful thing in a woman is her modesty, and the foundation of good morals is modesty. The modesty of love:<\/span><\/p>\n The shyness of the lover toward his beloved, such that when it crosses his heart during his absence, modesty becomes aroused. This is the shyness of a servant who loves his Lord and is ashamed to make a mistake in front of the one he loves. The modesty of slavery:<\/span><\/p>\n It is mixed with love, fear, and witnessing the imperfection of slavery. It is the most specific type of modesty and the highest in status in the relationship with God. Its owner sees himself as always falling short and does not purify it, even if he does good.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 9. Modesty of honor and pride:<\/span><\/p>\n The modesty of the honorable soul, which is ashamed to perform actions that are below its worth. This is a modesty that always pushes its possessor to the highest level, and keeps him away from the places of pettiness and humiliation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 10. One’s shyness towards oneself:<\/span><\/p>\n The highest type of modesty: a person is ashamed of himself when he is satisfied with his imperfection or is lenient in worldly matters in solitude.
