﴿It is He who has sent down to you the Book; verses therein are decisive, they are the foundation of the Book, and others are allegorical. As for those in whose hearts there is deviation, they follow what He made up similarities in it, seeking to confuse it and seeking to give it an interpretation, but no one knows its interpretation except God, and those who are firmly rooted in knowledge say, “We believe in it.” From our Lord, and none remember except those of understanding<\/span>﴾[Al Imran: 7].<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿It is He who sent down to you the Book, including decisive verses.<\/span>That is: It is God alone who has sent down to you the Qur’an, including verses with clear meaning, clear evidence in which there is no ambiguity or suspicion.[1]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿They are the Mother of the Book<\/span>That is to say: These decisive verses are the foundation of the Book, upon which it is relied upon, and to it what contradicts them is referred.[2]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿And another<\/span>(i.e. other verses)Similarities<\/span>That is, its meanings are hidden from most people. Because it may have more than one meaning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n God has described the entire Qur’an:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n •<\/span>That it is decisive, as at the beginning of Surat Hud:A book that has been decided<\/span>(Hud: 1) Meaning: It is perfect and you do not see any flaw, disorder, or flaw in it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n •<\/span>He described it as similar, as in the Almighty’s saying:God sent down the best hadith as a similar book.<\/span>(Al-Zumar: 23) That is, some of them resemble others in beauty, truthfulness, eloquence, and guidance.[3]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿As for those in whose hearts there is deviation<\/span>Misguidance and turning away from the truthSo they follow what is similar to it<\/span>That is, they abandon the decisive and clear meaning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n They take the similar for two reasons:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The first<\/strong>:<\/span>﴿Desperately<\/span>(meaning: request)Sedition<\/span>Among the believers, causing them to doubt their religion, and raising doubts in their hearts.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And the second:<\/strong><\/span>﴿And in order to interpret it<\/span>That is: interpreting it according to what is compatible with their whims and desires.[4]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, warned us about these people. He said, as in the two Sahihs and others, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, recited this verse:It is He who has sent down to you the Book; verses therein are decisive, they are the foundation of the Book, and others are allegorical. As for those in whose hearts there is deviation, they follow what He made up similarities in it, seeking to confuse it and seeking to give it an interpretation, but no one knows its interpretation except God, and those who are firmly rooted in knowledge say, “We believe in it.” From our Lord, and none remember except those of understanding<\/span>She said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: So if you see those who follow something similar to it, then those are the ones whom God has named, so beware of them.[5]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿No one knows its interpretation except God.<\/span>The people of knowledge differed regarding the interpretation here, based on the difference between the two readings, the connection and the stop.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ﴿And those who are firmly rooted in knowledge say, “We believe in it.”<\/span>﴾ (And al-Rasikhūn) The wāw is accusative, and al-Rasikhūn: in the nominative case, a subject, and its predicate is a sentence: they say, “We believed in him.” This is based on the recitation of stopping on the name of God Almighty, which is the most common.[6]<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>; The meaning is: No one knows the true meanings of these similar verses except God Almighty alone. This is like the facts about God’s attributes and how they are, and the facts about what will happen on the Day of Resurrection, and so on. As for those who are well-grounded in knowledge, they say: We believe in what is similar, and that it is true even if we do not know its interpretation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The waw is a conjunction, and the rāsiqun is in the nominative case, in conjunction with the word majesty, and appreciation: And no one knows the interpretation of the similar except God and those who are firmly rooted in knowledge.
