From the harms of envy
Praise be to God. There is no one who prevents what He gives, and there is no giver of what He withholds. He singles out for His mercy whomever He wills, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware. I praise Him, Glory be to Him, for the reasons for His blessings, and I thank Him for the synonym of His goodness and generosity, and I bear witness that there is no god but God alone with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, whose heart God has purified of malice and envy. O God, bless and grant peace upon Your servant and Messenger Muhammad, and upon his family and companions. As for what follows:
O Muslims, Al-Bukhari, Muslim and others narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God – may God bless him and grant him peace – said:((Beware of suspicion, for false talk is the most false of words. Do not spy, do not compete, do not envy one another, do not hate one another, do not turn to one another, and be servants of God, brothers, as God has commanded you. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor let him down, nor despise him. Piety is here. Piety is here – and he points to his chest – as if it is enough for a person to despise evil. Brother Muslim, everything that is sacred to another Muslim is forbidden to another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor)).
Servants of God,The wise Lawgiver is the trustworthy advisor. He warns his nation of the things that bring them downfall in their religion, in their world, and in their society. These reprehensible characteristics that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, warned against are the basis of evil among Muslims. They are reprehensible characteristics. They did not spread in a society without corrupting it, separating it, dividing the word of its people, putting them in anxiety and turmoil, and removing affection from them. And harmony, and one of the most harmful, the worst consequences, and the most disastrous is envy. It is the deadly disease. It is the incurable disease that afflicts many people today, and before today. It is the first sin with which God was disobeyed. He is Satan, because of whom God expelled and cursed him, and brought him down from heaven, and the Lord of Glory said to him:He said, “Then get out of it, for you are accursed.”*And the curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment.(Al-Hijr: 34, 35).
Servants of God,Envy is one of the characteristics of hypocritical people whose hearts are filled with hatred against the Muslims, and who shine with the call of the Master of Messengers. God described them in His Mighty Book as carrying within their hearts such rage that makes them bite their fingertips in hatred and rage against the Muslims. God Almighty said:Here you are, you love them but they do not love you, and you believe in the entire Book, and when they meet you they say, “We believe,” and when they are alone, they bite you with their fingertips. From anger, say, “Die in your anger. Indeed, God is All-Knowing of what is in the breasts.”*If good befalls you, it will harm you, and if evil befalls you, they rejoice in it, and if you are patient and fearful, their scheming will not harm you at all. Indeed, God They make an ocean(Al Imran: 119, 120).
Servants of God,When envy penetrates the hearts and dominates the souls, society will disintegrate, mutual advice will disappear, affection and brotherhood will disappear, humiliation and submissiveness will occur, and enemies will covet us.
Nothing spreads among a nation except that it corrupts their consciences, divides them, and divides their unity. God has rebuked those who committed it and condemned them for imitating Him, and God Almighty said:Or do they envy people for what God has given them of His bounty? Indeed, We gave the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom, and gave them a great kingdom.(An-Nisa: 54).
The Noble Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said in forbidding it, warning against it, and explaining its bad consequences for those who are characterized by it:((Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood))It was narrated from him, may God bless him and grant him peace, that he said:((People are still fine as long as they are not envious)).
Servants of God,Envy is a reprehensible creation. The envious person has objected to God in his judgment, he has objected to God in his management, and he counts God’s blessings upon His servants among his misfortunes. He is forever in worry and distress, in sadness and distress. The fire of envy has burned his heart, and the envied fluctuates in God’s blessings and does not feel any of that.
Envy does not subside in the soul of the envious unless the blessing of the envied is removed, and the disappearance of blessings and their attainment is in the hands of God Almighty. Envy causes its owner to conceal the truth and not acknowledge the favor to his family. If the envious learns good from the envied, he hides it, and if he knows evil, he spreads it and divulges it, and if he does not know, he tries to lie, and perhaps deliberately lies to him. It indicates the weakness of faith, even if Faith took hold in his heart to keep him from continuing to do what would displease God.
So fear God, servants of God.They were characterized by universal morals, and they rose above immoral qualities. They were morals of the Holy Qur’an, they were disciplined by its etiquette, they followed the path of the faithful servants of God, and they were characterized by their qualities for which God praised them. God Almighty said:And those who came after them say, “Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in our hearts hatred for those who believe.” Our Lord, You are Most Compassionate and Merciful(Al-Hashr: 10).
May God benefit me and you with the Holy Qur’an, and with the guidance of the Master of Messengers, I say this, and I ask God for forgiveness for me, for you, and for all other Muslims of every sin; So seek His forgiveness, for He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
