“month zero”
The month of Safar is the second month of the Hijri year, and it is one of God’s months, in which good and evil happen, and nothing happens except by God’s will. Whereas the Arabs in pre-Islamic times were pessimistic about this month – Safar – because they believed that it was a month of bad luck, or that there was a contagious disease in it. Islam invalidated these beliefs, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, confirmed their invalidity by saying:((No infection, no bird, no mite, no zero))To decide that good and evil are in the hands of God Almighty alone, and that the months do not carry bad luck in themselves.
It was said about the reason for calling it that: Because of the yellowing of its people in Mecca (i.e.: it is empty of its people) if they travel there, and it was said: it was given this name; Because the homes of the Arabs were emptying (i.e. empty and emptied) of their people. Because they go out there for travel and wars, and it was also said about the reason for its name: Some tribes are afflicted with a disease called “zero.” It was said: The Arabs used to call him (a carpenter); Because camels drink a lot of water from it due to extreme thirst. All of these reasons are in the hands of God, and He is the one who makes them happen or robs them of their effect, so one must believe in God and His ability. As for times, they have nothing to do with the influence and estimation of God Almighty, for it is like any other time in which good and evil are determined. This is like someone who, when he hears an owl crowing, says: “Good, God willing.” Neither good nor evil is said. Rather, it croaks like other birds.
On the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, he said: They believed that Umrah during the months of Hajj was one of the most immoral debaucheries on earth, and they made the Muhram pilgrim Safar, and they said: If the back is cleared, the trail is clear, and the Safar is removed, then Umrah is permissible for the one who performed Umrah.
In the hadith of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, which was narrated by Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said:((No infection, no bird, no lizard, no whistle. Flee from a leper as you flee from a lion)); It contains a statement that the belief of the people of pre-Islamic times in Safar is reprehensible, as it is one of God’s months that has no will, but rather passes by God’s subjugation of it. Then the negation in these four matters is not a negation of existence; Because it exists, but it is a negation of influence, for the influencer is God, so whatever is a known cause is a valid cause, and whatever is an imaginary cause is an invalid cause, and it is a negation of his influence by himself and his causality.
In this month, heresies and corrupt beliefs may occur among those affiliated with Islam. From singling out prayer, charity, or other deeds that are not valid, and it has been proven on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, that he said: “Whoever does an act that is not in accordance with our command, it will have it rejected,” and he said: “Whoever introduces something into this matter of ours that is not part of it, it will have it rejected.” And whoever attributes any action to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, or to one of the Companions, may God be pleased with them, it is not correct and not proven in the Sunnah of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace; He lost the greatest lie.
May God grant us all success in what He loves and is pleased with, and God knows best, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions.
